Luca's First Season at Calf Pasture
Luca's Beach Kitchen opened at the old Ripka's site on May 29, 2026, run by Anthony Luciani and his wife Rosa, who also own Mr. Frosty's Ice Cream Shop nearby, along with partner Cory Burns. It's a warm, well-liked concept, with 15 dedicated parking spots for people making the trip just for the food and a menu built around beach classics: burgers, a hot buttered lobster roll, oysters from Copps Island. Rosa Luciani told News 12 the team plans to keep running music nights "in his honor," a direct nod to the Ripka's tradition they inherited.
The city's agreement with the operating company is a one-year license, not a long-term lease, put in place because there wasn't time to negotiate anything longer before the season started. This season's setup includes a shipping container bar, a kitchen trailer, and sand-covered seating under tents. The permanent building is still under construction, with the full concept slated for 2027.
Four Blocks Inland, Nik's Place Broke Its Own Pattern
According to Patch, Nik's Place is the family-run gyro and burger stand at 86 Gregory Boulevard, close enough to Calf Pasture and Shady Beach that generations of the same families have stopped there on the way home from the sand. Owner Steve Kydes has run it for 25 years, part of a business that's been in his family for 45. It closed for two years after Kydes tried and failed to sell it, then reopened this spring after that closure on May 1, 2026, to lines Kydes said caught him off guard.
Here's the part that actually matters for anyone reading this in September: Before its two-year closure, Nik's shut down for the season and reopened in the spring each year. This year, Kydes says that changes. He's planning to stay open until about mid-December, with soups and other cold-weather items added to the menu once the season turns. "Our menu is going to change when the season changes in late September or late October," he told Patch this spring, adding that hours might shift earlier as well.
